Governance and Responsible Gaming Programs of the Lottomatica Group

Pubblicato il: 18 giugno 2025

For Lottomatica, promoting responsible gaming is both a strategic and daily commitment, as well as an integral part of its corporate governance and sustainable development vision. As the leading operator in Italy’s public gaming market, the Group fully embraces its role in overseeing legal gaming and its responsibility to provide players with safe, informed, and transparent experiences.

An Integrated Responsibility Model
Lottomatica’s program is formalized within its Responsible Gaming Policy and coordinated by a dedicated Committee, working in synergy with the ESG Office. This structure ensures constant oversight across all channels and activities, from defining consumer protection tools to training the sales network. The program is based on a set of guidelines that promote the prevention of underage gaming, the reduction of excessive gaming behaviors, ongoing staff training, and raising player awareness.
As highlighted by Ida De Sena, Responsible Gaming & Environment Manager of the Group: “Playing responsibly means preventing underage gaming, developing a safe offer, and promoting a culture of gaming by bringing it back to the dimension of healthy and conscious entertainment.”

International Certifications Ensuring Player Protection
Further confirming the Group’s commitment is the prestigious G4 Certification for responsible gaming within its directly managed retail network. This achievement, which Lottomatica was the first to obtain in Italy—and among the few worldwide—involves over 110 retail locations, audited through a rigorous process based on strict criteria, such as staff training, the use of advanced technological solutions, and the implementation of effective measures for preventing problematic gaming.
This certification complements the one already obtained by Lottomatica for its digital channel, alongside an additional recognition: the WLA Responsible Gaming Certification, awarded to its subsidiary GBO Italy for the betting sector. Issued by the World Lottery Association—the international body representing the world’s leading lotteries—the WLA certification attests to compliance with the highest standards of social responsibility in gaming.

The Professional Network of Legal Gaming
Lottomatica operates the most extensive distribution network in the industry across Italy: over 4,000 betting points, 1,100 gaming halls, 119 directly managed venues, and approximately 18,000 operators involved. This network is where specialist training takes shape, a key element of responsible gaming policies.
One of the cornerstones of this system is the “Punto Gioco Intelligente” program, developed in partnership with the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Gemelli IRCCS and Fondazione Lottomatica. The training program, certified by G4 and WLA, enables hall staff and frontline workers to recognize signs of distress and intervene with awareness, helping to protect those at risk.

Towards a Sustainable Future for Public Gaming
All these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to promote public gaming in Italy, built on responsibility and innovation. The Group actively supports scientific research and addiction prevention through collaborations with academic and healthcare institutions, such as the CEPID center for the treatment and prevention of behavioral addictions.
With its integrated approach, Lottomatica strengthens the connection between responsible gaming, consumer protection, and sustainability, contributing to redefining the rules of entertainment in Italy with an ethical, modern, and inclusive vision.
