On May 21, 2026, Alessandro Fiumara, CEO of GBO – Lottomatica Group, spoke at the Stati Generali of the Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) in Rome, during a panel dedicated to match-fixing and fraud management. The panel brought together industry operators, sports data providers, and international institutions, including Sportradar and the International Olympic Committee.
In his speech, Fiumara illustrated the operational model adopted by Lottomatica for monitoring bets and combating sports manipulation, with a particular focus on the role of artificial intelligence.
Lottomatica’s defense against match-fixing operates on multiple levels. The first is statistical: for every event, the system knows the expected betting volume based on historical data. When a wager exceeds the set threshold, it is blocked and flagged for review by a trader from the trading office. If manipulation is confirmed, the event is immediately closed, and the ADM is informed.
An artificial intelligence agent is integrated into this system. “We have built an AI agent that behaves like a trader analyst,” Fiumara explained. The agent recognizes so-called false positives—flags that do not constitute actual cases of manipulation—allowing traders to focus on higher-risk match-fixing cases. In this way, the AI handles the most repetitive tasks, while traders can dedicate more attention to cases requiring qualified assessment.
The same agent is used to combat bots: it analyzes correlations between IP addresses and identifies repeated, small-amount bets coming from multiple accounts. All AI tools are subject to validation by the internal legal and compliance department.
The presentation at the ADM Stati Generali is part of a broader journey. Last year, Lottomatica Group joined the IBIS (Integrity Betting Intelligence System), developed by the International Olympic Committee and operational since 2014 across all major Olympic Movement events. The agreement provides for the sharing of information on anomalous betting, corruption cases, and insider information across all of the Group's brands.
Lottomatica's participation in the ADM Stati Generali reflects the Group's ongoing contribution to discussions surrounding sports integrity, technological innovation, and the responsible development of the public gaming sector.
