New day dedicated to blood donation, today, at Lottomatica. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Rosso, a startup that has set itself the ambitious goal of reducing patient waiting times, aiming to eliminate the blood emergency in our country by 2030.
Numerous Lottomatica employees decided to participate in this second day organized by the company and were able to donate at the blood banks, special mobile units built with the same functions as a blood transfusion centre, present in Lottomatica’s headquarters. Thanks to their gesture of solidarity , they have given concrete help to the many people who are still waiting to receive a blood transfusion in Italy. And in exchange for their act of generosity, donors had the opportunity to receive a free medical check-up.
"The broad participation by Lottomatica colleagues is a great sign of social commitment, participation and responsibility that fills us with pride", commented the group's Chief People Officer Giuseppina Falcucci, who then recalled: "Donating is a simple and safe gesture. Today's initiative constitutes an important opportunity to demonstrate our sensitivity and solidarity as an organization and as a company."
In this perspective of raising awareness at all levels, in 2004 the World Health Organization (WHO) established the "World Blood Donor Day" on June 14th to sensitize the public and make known the beneficial effects of donation. Even today, blood transfusions are essential for saving lives, yet in Italy only 2.7% of the population donates. A percentage still too low and insufficient to meet the existing national need.
