It's called "#PowerBook – Knowledge is Our Strength," and it's Lottomatica's new format dedicated to the group's employees. It delves into current political, economic, and social issues through discussions with authors and writers from various professional backgrounds. Eight events have taken place within the company in 2023, and many more are scheduled for 2024.
From politics to geopolitics, encompassing economics, the environment, and law, these are the main themes that have characterized the initiative titled "#PowerBook – Knowledge is Our Strength," promoted by Lottomatica and exclusively dedicated to the group's employees. It's a series of book presentations aimed at exploring some of the key topics in the ongoing national and international public debate through conversations with authors and writers.
A WINDOW TO THE WORLD
The Power Book project, with periodic debates throughout 2023, aims to bring what happens outside into the company. The goal is to open a window to the world within Lottomatica, attempting to interpret unfolding events through a more in-depth perspective, enriching the toolbox of participants in the debates.
HOW POWER BOOKS WORK
The initiative revolves around participation and horizontal communication. It includes a brief introduction, a quick interview with the guest about the topic presented in the book, followed by a Q&A session with both physically present and remotely connected employees through the company's intranet. An hour of intense debate, closing the morning, is followed by an informal lunch where dialogue with the author can continue before everyone returns to their respective activities.
THE PROTAGONISTS OF THE DEBATES
Most recently, participating in #PowerBook were journalists from Corriere della Sera, Gianna Fregonara, and Orsola Riva, authors of the book "Non sparate sulla scuola. Tutto quello che non vi dicono sull’istruzione in Italia" (published by Solferino). Before them, journalist Cecilia Sala, author of the recent "L’incendio. Reportage su una generazione tra Iran, Ucraina e Afghanistan" (Mondadori), and geopolitical expert Dario Fabbri were part of a special edition, presenting not a book but the monthly magazine "Domino" – of which Fabbri is the director and Enrico Mentana the publisher – dedicated to the crisis in the Middle East. Previously, journalist Sergio Rizzo, author of "Il Titanic delle pensioni. Perché lo Stato sociale sta affondando" (Solferino), had been a guest on Lottomatica's #PowerBook, addressing the sensitive topic of the functioning of the social security system in Italy. Other participants included Sky Tg 24 journalist Giovanna Pancheri, former Mayor of Rome Francesco Rutelli, constitutionalist Alfonso Celotto, and communicator/manager Gianluca Giansante, each presenting their respective works.
THE POWER OF WRITTEN WORD
"While being a company strongly oriented towards digital innovation – 25% of our people are engaged in various technology-related roles – we firmly believe in the power of paper and books, which we consider fundamental tools for understanding and knowledge," commented Lottomatica CEO Guglielmo Angelozzi. He added, "People are the heart and engine of our group, an essential resource for building our sustainable business model. Towards them, we commit to ensuring a working environment that is not only safe and inclusive but also stimulating. And #PowerBook aligns with this aim."
